Free Rice
Free Rice. No, not for you. For people who really need it. A very engaging site (especially if you have a good vocabulary).
Usability: A+
It’s clear what to do. You jump in and start.
Engagement: A+
You feel righteous “wasting” your time this way, watching the rice grains collect in the bowl. The major-brand advertisers’ logos appearing at the bottom add legitimacy to the site.
Repeat visit draw: B-
The FAQ is convincing, although the real-world value of building vocabulary this way is not validated. Perhaps the idea is to appeal to up-and-coming managers? In the meantime, how likely am I to return to the site to practice vocabulary and provide for the needy? Probably not very.
Perhaps if the level achieved were more emphasized? As you get more answers right, your vocabulary level goes up. I got as high as 48, which drew some pretty darn obscure words. Maybe if I could compare scores with my colleagues I’d be more tempted to keep at it, just for the bragging rights.
How high can you get?
