Word of the Day
Today’s word: teleport
I really like this new usage of the word teleport that I saw today: when a website’s links are ignored and users leave to another page of their choosing.
The traditional definition (dating to the 1950s) is “to transfer or transmit instantaneously without physically traversing the space in between but rather by psychic or advanced technological means,” as anyone who grew up on science fiction knows. Presumably that usage is a portmanteau of telepathic and transportation.
A brief search of the web shows a newer — and very cool — usage applying to a cluster zone for satellite dishes (presumably combining telephony and port).
